Seward Park

A picturesque pathways winds it's way around the island, providing the visitor with relaxing views of the lake and the Mercer Island shore. The Park features trails and picnic areas, amphitheater, art gallery, playgrounds, swimming, and fishing.  Also on the grounds of the park is the Seward Park Hatchery, a small educational fish hatchery maintained by the University of Washington.

The water is clear and inviting.  The bottom is scattered with rounded pebbles, and small fish dart and jump in the shallows.  The lake shore is scattered with flowering bushes and trees. Multicolored blossoms on cherry trees, blackberry bushes, and other flowering shrubs make the park a pleasant place to meander away a Saturday afternoon.

The interior of the peninsula is crisscrossed by dirt trails leading though a verdant pine forest.  Prehistoric-looking ferns with soft needle-like leaves line the trails.

Rhododendron thrive in moist shaded environments.  They are prolific in the park, and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
